Alu-Cab Roof Conversion ”Icarus” Land Rover Defender until YOC 2019, white

With the Alu-Cab Icarus Roof Conversion, the Land Rover Defender can be transformed into a fully equipped overland vehicle with additional living and sleeping space. When opened, the roof conversion provides enough headroom to stand comfortably inside the vehicle and offers a spacious sleeping area for two people. The 70 mm thick dual-layer mattress provides a comfortable sleeping surface.

Three large openings with integrated mosquito nets provide good ventilation and clear views of the surroundings while keeping insects out. The rear entrance features a small canopy that provides additional protection from sun and rain. Integrated LED reading lights and interior lighting ensure sufficient illumination inside the sleeping area after dark.

Developed for the requirements of the European market, the Icarus Roof Conversion is manufactured from 2 mm thick aluminium and follows the design language of the original Defender roof. Integrated tubular supports provide additional structural stability, while the C-channels on the roof make it easy to mount additional accessories. The quilted headliner features an insulating foam layer to improve comfort in varying weather conditions.

The roof conversion uses a robust 400 g/m² Riplock tent fabric with a polyurethane membrane and stretch properties. This construction helps reduce fabric movement in windy conditions while providing privacy and water resistance. Gas struts allow the roof to be opened within seconds, while an integrated elastic cord system helps draw the tent fabric inward when closing the roof.

One of the key advantages of the Icarus is its reversible installation. For installation, the original Land Rover Defender roof is removed and the Icarus Roof Conversion is then fitted and bolted into place. This allows the vehicle to be returned to its original roof configuration if required, and the roof conversion can in principle be transferred to another compatible Defender.

All required mounting brackets for installation between the Defender and the roof conversion are included. Thanks to the existing rain gutter, compatible roof rack systems can also continue to be used.

The Icarus Roof Conversion is available as standard in Black and Defender White. The Alu-Cab 270° Awning can only be mounted on the left-hand side of the Defender; the corresponding brackets are available separately (AC-A-AWN-BKT-RC-DE-L).

A comparable roof conversion is also available for the Toyota Land Cruiser 78.

We recommend having the Roof Conversion installed by one of our Alu-Cab Roof Conversion partners. If the installation is carried out by the customer, Genesis Import GmbH accepts no liability for defects or damage resulting from the self-installation. This also applies to consequential damage caused by incorrect or improper installation.

No installation instructions or TÜV documentation are supplied with the Roof Conversion. When purchasing the Roof Conversion, the corresponding waiver included in the appendix must be signed.
